878 crashes, 4 deaths reported across Missouri as of Saturday afternoon

Both MoDOT and MSHP continue to ask people to stay off the roads Saturday evening.

ST. LOUIS –  The roads in the St. Louis area have been mostly cleared of snow but MoDOT said the concern now is refreezing Saturday night. 

At a 4 p.m. press conference, MoDOT said they will have crews out treating the roads with salt brine and beet juice to try and get ahead of the refreeze. They also said they will have crews out through the night.

Bob Becker with MoDOT advised drivers to take it much slower than usual on bridges, overpasses and onramps.

“A lot of slush in them. If you drive through those, your car will move around on you a little bit,” he said.

He predicted Monday’s morning commute may be a little bit easier.

“If we get any sun at all it will make a big difference,” Becker said.

As of 2 p.m. Saturday, the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to 3,918 calls for service, 1790 stranded drivers, 878 crashes, 57 injuries and four deaths.

And Illinois State Police has assisted 783 drivers, responded to 278 crashes and one death from 5 p.m. Friday through 1 p.m. Saturday.  

Both MoDOT and MSHP are asking people to stay off the roads Saturday night.
