91-year-old killed in wrong-way crash on I-270

James E. McClung was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after 2 p.m.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — A 91-year-old Florissant man died Thursday afternoon after a wrong-way crash on westbound Interstate 270 in St. Louis County.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, a Toyota Camry driven by James E. McClung was traveling the wrong direction on westbound I-270 near Lindbergh Boulevard shortly before noon and approached a tractor-trailer.

The driver of the tractor-trailer tried to merge to an adjacent lane. McClung's Toyota also traveled into the second lane and struck the front of the tractor-trailer.

The debris from the crash struck a Nissan Pathfinder, and the tractor-trailer also struck the passenger side of a Dodge Charger, which crashed into a concrete barrier. 

McClung was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after 2 p.m. The driver of the tractor-trailer was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

No injuries were reported from the other two cars.
