GLEN CARBON, Ill. — There is a call for volunteers at Sunset Hill Cemetery, where more than 200 gravestones were vandalized on Memorial Day weekend.
There are more than 1,400 veterans buried at the Glen Carbon cemetery. However, the vandalism isn't stopping the funeral home and cemetery from holding its 29th annual Memorial Day ceremony.
Local veterans, military serviceman and volunteers will place nearly 1,400 flags at the cemetery to honor veterans on Monday.
The cemetery staff says they could use all the volunteer help they can get setting up flags for the ceremony, considering how much work they already put in over the weekend to clean up the vandalism.
The staff would like volunteers to help put up the flags and take them down. The volunteer work is not for cleaning up the vandalism.
You can show up the Sunset Hill Cemetery at 6:45 a.m. Monday if you would like to volunteer.
Connie Adams has family buried at the cemetery. She says she would like to volunteer tomorrow morning and she hopes other people will too.
"We want to come out and help do our part."
