ST CHARLES, Mo. — Parking in Downtown St. Charles is getting easier with the help of a new mobile app.
St. Charles County announced the new "Park STC" app ahead of some summer events sure to draw crowds downtown. The app shows the current occupancy for all the approximately 1,500 public parking spots in an approximately 30-block area of downtown.
“On-street parking along Main is more of an estimate, since actual spaces are not marked,” Matt Seggerman, Project Manager for Roads and Traffic, said in a press release. “But you can get a fairly good read on if a green area is large enough for your specific vehicle, or at least be able to tell if it’s in a convenient area for you.”
People can use the app without creating an account. The data of guest users will not be collected, the press release said.
The app development was part of the county's Smart Infrastructure plan. The smart parking project cost about $800,000, with 80% of the funding from East-West Gateway Council of Governments. The $800,000 covers the implementation and three years of data service.
The press release said the county is considering expanding the program to other parts of St. Charles and other municipalities with known parking issues and installing signs in smart parking areas to direct drivers to available parking spots.
The app is available now on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
