ARNOLD, Mo. — The city of Arnold announced today, Aug. 26, that it will no longer pursue a controversial road project.
“The City of Arnold and the Arnold Retail Corridor (ARC) Transportation Development District are no longer pursuing the Arnold Parkway project,” City Administrator Bryan Richison said in a written statement. “The City and the ARC will complete the purchase of any properties that are currently under contract if the property owner wishes to complete the sale. There will be no further efforts to acquire property.”
Arnold officials wanted to build the Arnold Parkway – a 2-mile, two-lane road – to connect Hwy. 141 and Richardson Road. They said the road would cost approximately $75 million and would be funded with revenue from the sale of bonds through the ARC TDD.
In order to build the road, the city would have needed to acquire a large portion of the Water Tower Place shopping plaza on Michigan Avenue off Jeffco Boulevard, 38 homes, businesses near Hwy. 141 and a storage facility near Richardson Road.
