Arnold residents frustrated with mail delays, lost packages after post office closure

"If they have this building they should be making this facility usable and operating out of it,” Joe Crouch said.

ARNOLD, Mo. — Two months after their post office closed, several Arnold residents said they were having problems getting their mail, so they turned to 5 on Your Side for help.

After closing its location along Jeffco Boulevard in Arnold, USPS moved operations a half mile away to a former Here Today storefront on Michigan Avenue.

A promised mobile postal unit can be seen in the parking lot, but it is unstaffed.

Anyone who attempts to go inside the building is greeted by locked doors and a sign telling them to pick up their packages at a USPS location off Telegraph Road in St. Louis County.

“I expected them to be up and running by the time they shut this one down,” Joe Crouch said.

“There’s nobody here,” Susan Crouch said. “If you want to mail a package you have to go to South County now.”

Arnold residents Joe and Susan Crouch said since the old post office closed, they’ve experienced multiple delays with their mail that can’t be explained away by postal tracking.

“Feb. 12, it showed up in St. Louis,” Joe said.

“It just disappeared,” Susan said. “It never moved.”

“It seems to be lost somewhere," Joe said.

5 on Your Side shared their story with USPS spokesman Mark Inglett, who provided the following statement:

“Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I don’t have an update on the Arnold Post Office at this time, however the Postal Service is committed to providing the best possible service to our customers and we apologize for any inconvenience they may have experienced.”

"If they have this building, they should be making this facility usable and operating out of it,” Joe said. “How stupid is it that they've been paying rent on a building for a year, not using it, and not getting it ready to use."

"They need to get their ducks in a row and they need to be transparent about what they're going to do,” Susan said. “If they're going to not open it, don't string us along."

"If you would've told me I wouldn't have a post office in a town this size I would've laughed at you,” Joe said.
