ARNOLD, Mo. — A 44-year-old Arnold woman lost $1,500 in a Facebook Marketplace scam. She thought she was arranging to rent a home on Rockwood Forest Drive in Arnold, police said.

The woman contacted Arnold Police at about 6:20 p.m. Aug. 19 when the people she was scheduled to meet to get the keys for the home did not show up. She had responded to an ad on Marketplace and was communicating with someone about renting the home through Facebook Messenger, the report said.

Before she went to the house to get the keys, she sent $1,500 through Venmo, a mobile payment app, to the person she thought she was renting the home from to cover rental fees. The ad she responded to is no longer on Marketplace, and the person she was communicating with about the rental deal stopped replying to her messages, according to the report.
