Trees from residential homes without lights and decorations will be accepted through Jan. 14, 2024.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — As the holiday season winds down, many people are ready to take down their decorations and Christmas trees.

Several locations across the St. Louis region are offering to dispose of the holiday trees at various recycling sites. All decorations, tree stands, plastic bags, and tape should be removed from the tree. Here's where you can go:

St. Louis County

St. Louis County Parks and the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) aim to make it easier for residents to recycle their trees across the area.

Trees from residential homes will be accepted through Jan. 14, 2024. MDC will use the natural trees to create habitats for fish.

You can drop off your tree at these four county parks:

  • Spanish Lake Park, located at 12500 Spanish Pond Road in the main parking lot by the lake
  • Creve Coeur Lake Memorial Park, located at 13777 Marine Avenue near the Sailboat Cove parking lot
  • Queeny Park, located at 550 Weidman Road in the corporate parking lot off Weidman near the Complex
  • Bee Tree Park, located at 2701 Finestown Avenue in the lake parking lot

  • O’Fallon Park Recreation Complex (YMCA): Southwest corner of the parking lot

  • Carondelet Park: Grand and Holly Hills, area near gate next to mulch piles

The trees will be recycled into free mulch and firewood. Trees should not be placed in alley dumpsters or recycling containers. City officials said trees, however, can be placed in alleys for bulk pickup.

Across the Missouri River, St. Peters residents can recycle their trees at St. Peters Earth Centre with a resident privilege card for free through Jan. 13. Those without a card will have to pay a $5 fee.

Residents who want their tree picked up at their home should place it inside their brown yard waste cart for pickup on their regular yard waste collection day through Jan. 31, 2024.
