BELLEVILLE, Ill. – Police are investigating after a baby was scalded and hospitalized from a bath at a child care facility Monday night.

Police said they were called to Kolor Wheel on the 1800 block of North Belt West for a report of a scalding around 9:45 p.m. Monday. Police said the baby, a 23-month-old girl, was immersed in a bathtub of hot water.

When detectives arrived, they talked to the mother of the girl who had been called and informed of the incident by employees at Kolor Wheel.

“You put trust in a daycare because that’s where you put your kids go every day, so you put trust in them to take care of your kids, so that’s very shocking,” says Daren Carpenter, a neighbor who lives just around the corner from Kolor Wheel Daycare.

The girl was taken to the hospital and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services was notified.

“I looked out the windows and I heard sirens.," said Dennis Jones Jr, an employee at the grocery store across the street. "There was an ambulance that pulled up next to the residence and about 3 cop cars and I looked out the window and I saw them pull out a stretcher.”

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information in the case is asked to call Belleville police at (618) 234-1212 or CrimeStoppers at (866) 371-8477.
