Bodies found in Ballwin home identified as elderly mother, adult son

The medical examiner said they were dead for at least two weeks before their bodies were found on Jan. 30.

BALLWIN, Mo. — The bodies found inside a Ballwin home in late January have been identified, the St. Louis County Medical Examiner's Office said Wednesday.

The office said the people found inside the home were 87-year-old Mary Monson and her 50-year-old son John Monson Jr. The medical examiner said the Monsons were dead for at least two weeks before their bodies were found on Jan. 30.

The bodies were found on the 400 block of Sunnyslope Drive, according to Ballwin Police Department spokesperson Mark Reckert. Reckert said a mail carrier noticed the home's mailbox was stuffed full and called police around 3 p.m. to check the welfare of the people who live there.

The Monsons lived at the home where their bodies were discovered. The medical examiner said there were no obvious signs of trauma, but autopsy results were still pending as of Wednesday.

The identification process took longer than normal because the medical examiner needed to make a scientific identification and use dental records.
