ST. LOUIS — Nearly a decade after Hanneke Hardware & Industrial Supply Co. shuttered its retail store on Southwest Avenue, a new hardware store is set to open near The Hill.
Located catty-corner to the former Hanneke building, Ace Hardware in the coming months will open a new store at 5437 Southwest Ave., technically in the city’s Southwest Garden neighborhood, adjacent to The Hill. The space formerly held a Save A Lot grocery store that closed in December 2021.
Ace is set to begin construction on the space, having last week been issued an electrical permit by the city which lists an estimated cost of $10,000, records show.
Nick Garavaglia, first vice president of Dallas-based commercial real estate firm CBRE Group Inc.’s St. Louis office and a resident of The Hill, estimated the new store will open in about five months based on when the lease was executed and current construction timelines.
