Black Lives Matter grant sharply boosted funding to Michael Brown foundation

The dramatic spike in revenue is due to the $1.4 million grant from the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation Inc. to the Michael O.D. Brown foundation.

FERGUSON, Mo. — A nonprofit group founded by the mother of Michael Brown, who was killed nearly a decade ago by a Ferguson police officer, has received a massive increase in funding driven by a grant from Black Lives Matter.

Revenue for the nonprofit, the Michael O.D. Brown We Love Our Sons & Daughters Foundation, has increased from zero in 2020 to $526,826 in 2021 and $507,706 in 2022, according to Form 990s filed by the nonprofit group with the Internal Revenue Service. Combined with expenses of $154,112, the group ended 2022 with a fund balance of $833,955. The form 990 for 2023 is not available yet.
