WASHINGTON — Negotiations have stalled once again between The Boeing Co. and 33,000 of its employees in the Pacific Northwest.
In an email to employees Tuesday night, Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Stephanie Pope said the jet maker had withdrawn its latest labor contract offer and walked away from talks with the International Association of Machinists 751, which represents nearly half of Boeing’s Washington workforce. Those workers have been on strike since mid-September, and Boeing has furloughed thousands more employees – including an undisclosed number at its St. Louis-area operations – in an effort to cut costs while its factories are idle.
The union “made non-negotiable demands far in excess of what can be accepted if we are to remain competitive as a business,” Pope wrote in the email. “Given that position, further negotiations do not make sense at this point and our offer has been withdrawn.”
