ST. LOUIS — Brew Tulum, a specialty coffeehouse and Mexican eatery on Delmar Boulevard in the Central West End, will shutter its doors amid a dispute over lead contamination.

“Unfortunately, we could not reach a satisfactory agreement with our landlord… for the proper remediation of the premises as outlined by certified environmental specialists,” its owners said in a social media post last Tuesday.

Husband-and-wife-duo Laura McNamara and Alberto “AJ” Juarez opened Brew Tulum at 5090 Delmar Blvd. in the Delmar Maker District, located between Union and North Kingshighway boulevards, last year as one of the burgeoning district’s early tenants. The shop this September announced its temporary closure and launched a GoFundMe campaign for an “unexpected maintenance emergency,” the couple said at the time.

The couple earlier this month said the closure was due to lead contamination.
