CLAYTON, Mo. — The office campus of a footwear retailer, considered to be one of the prime redevelopment sites in Clayton, is slated to be purchased by the local school district for its own future expansion.

The 9-acre headquarters of Caleres Inc. at 8300 Maryland Ave. will be sold as soon as mid-February to the School District of Clayton, which already operates Clayton High School on a neighboring property, pending due diligence, Clayton Superintendent Nisha Patel said Tuesday in a letter to Clayton parents. The sale comes with certain undisclosed closing conditions that have to be met and will include the entire campus, including 8400 Maryland Ave. and the Topton Way parking lot, Caleres President and CEO Jay Schmidt said in a statement.

As part of the terms of the sale, Caleres could continue to operate from its offices up to 15 months after the closing date, Patel said.
