Centene cancels in-person investor day in NYC, will be held virtually

Thompson was murdered Wednesday by a gunman outside the New York Hilton Midtown in Manhattan, where the company was hosting an Investor Day event later in the day.

ST. LOUIS — Managed care giant Centene Corp. (NYSE: CNC) will hold its upcoming Investor Day event virtually, in response to the shooting death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City.

The program will be webcast during the previously scheduled date and time, 7:30 a.m. Central Time on Dec. 12. Centene’s annual event was scheduled to be held in New York City with financial analysts and others in attendance. Last year’s event was held at the New York Stock Exchange in Manhattan and also was available in-person and via live stream.

Thompson was murdered Wednesday by a gunman outside the New York Hilton Midtown in Manhattan, where the company was hosting an Investor Day event later in the day. The 50-year-old Thompson was named CEO of Minnesota-based UnitedHealthcare, UnitedHealth Group's insurance arm, in April 2021.

"All of us at Centene are deeply saddened by Brian Thompson's death and want to express our support for all of those affected," Centene CEO Sarah London said in a statement.
