CHESTERFIELD, Mo. — The owner of a St. Louis mall scheduled to close in August ahead of a $2 billion planned redevelopment has set the date for the mall's demolition to begin.

Contractors will start tearing down Chesterfield Mall on Oct. 15, said Tim Lowe, vice president of leasing and development for The Staenberg Group, the Overland-based mall owner that purchased the property in 2020 with an intent to redevelop it.

The demolition process should take about six months, Lowe said. The mall site is bounded by Interstate 64, Chesterfield Parkway and Clarkson Road.

The mall itself is scheduled to permanently close Aug. 31, and leases, such as those for Cheesecake Factory, will terminate by that time. The sale of various mall fixtures has been underway for more than a year.
