CLAYTON, Mo. — The Clayton Board of Education has until Monday to back out of its deal to buy the Caleres office campus in Clayton and will seriously weigh its options between now and then, district officials said at a forum Wednesday, with some adding their ideas for the site.
At the forum at Wydown Middle School, which lasted about two and a half hours, a series of district residents mostly spoke against the school district acquiring the 9-acre Caleres site for future undetermined school development. City officials had previously touted the space as a prime redevelopment site, and Mayor Michelle Harris and other district residents have said they oppose the sale and would rather see a commercial developer buy the land.
