ST. LOUIS — A developer plans a new hotel tower at a Central West End site currently occupied by a historic building, which would be incorporated into the proposal.

The latest plan envisioned for the Optimist International headquarters property, at 4494 Lindell Blvd., is to build a seven-story hotel called The International, said Jeff Winzerling of the development firm Versa Development.

Versa has the 0.83-acre site under contract in a joint venture with Rothschild Development, Winzerling said. The property has been on the market since 2020, at an asking price of $3.5 million, according to a listing.

The design incorporates the historic 1961 Optimist International main building at the site, which is typically referred to as the pavilion.

To create the new hotel plan, HOK created a design that emphasizes the pavilion building’s “midcentury modern bones,” accentuating the concrete colonnade, the projecting roof and floor planes, and its raised lawn, Winzerling said.
