ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — A grocery store chain is looking to expand its St. Louis warehouse that serves several states, as part of a national expansion plan.
Discount grocer Aldi Inc., based out of Batavia, Illinois, has long operated a distribution center at 475 Pearl Drive in O’Fallon, Missouri, where it’s looking to expand the building and its parking so that it can expand product storage and add a third shift of workers to move products, city documents show.
In a request to expand the existing 429,473-square-foot building by 151,000 square feet and add a second truck entrance and more parking areas, Aldi said it currently employs 200 people at the site, but anticipates higher demand as the distribution center moves to 24-hour operations.
The distribution center, located directly off Highway 79, serves Missouri, Illinois, Iowa and Arkansas, and houses an Aldi office along with the warehouse.
