ST. LOUIS — Take Root Hospitality, the James Beard-nominated hospitality group behind Vicia and Winslow’s Table, has found a permanent brick-and-mortar for its seasonal taqueria concept.

Taqueria Morita — which features tacos and other seasonal dishes with vegetables serving at the center of its menu — will open at 4239 Duncan Ave. in the Cortex Innovation Community in the Central West End during next year’s first quarter, Linda Eigelberger, chief commercial officer at Midas Hospitality, said. The space was formerly a Wasabi Sushi Bar restaurant, which closed at the end of last month.

Wasabi Sushi and Midas Hospitality partnered to open the restaurant in December 2020.

“The restaurant opened during COVID, and so we felt like the restaurant never had a really good footing in that location,” Eigelberger said.

Wasabi Sushi still operates six locations across the region in Clayton; Edwardsville; Town and Country; O’Fallon, Illinois; St. Charles; and Kirkwood, according to its website.
