OLIVETTE, Mo. — A new racket sports complex is coming to St. Louis.
The Padel + Pickleball Club, located at 1220 N. Price Road in Olivette, is looking to open in early December, co-founder Kevin Maher Jr. said. The indoor complex will total 42,000 square feet, he added.
Padel, sometime called padel tennis, is a racket sport typically played in doubles on a court slightly smaller than a doubles tennis court. The sport uses the same scoring system and a similar ball as in tennis, but the court has walls which balls can be played off, like in squash.
It’s one of the fastest-growing sports internationally, Maher said, making it a good companion to pickleball, which has boomed in popularity in recent years. Both sports have short learning curves and low startup costs, helping them appeal to a wide range of ages and fitness levels, he added.
