CHESTERFIELD, Mo. — LL Flooring Holdings Inc., formerly known as Lumber Liquidators, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Sunday and is closing 94 stores, including three in Missouri and seven in Illinois.

The stores slated for closure, which span 31 states from coast to coast, will remain open as the closure process begins.

The Missouri closures include the LL Flooring store at 17724 Chesterfield Airport Road.

The other Missouri locations slated to close are in Joplin and Kansas City. The Illinois locations scheduled to close, none of which are in Metro East, are mostly in the Chicago market: Bloomington, Champaign, Crystal Lake, East Peoria, Geneva, Mundelein and South Elgin.

The company intends to keep more than 300 stores open nationally; they will continue to operate normally. In Missouri, those include stores in Fenton, St. Peters, Columbia, Lee's Summit and Springfield. Eight Illinois locations are to remain open, including Fairview Heights in the St. Louis area.
