Italian restaurant to close after nearly 40 years in St. Louis

The restaurant’s final day of service will be Sept. 29.

ST. LOUIS — LoRusso’s Cucina, a longtime Italian restaurant in south St. Louis, is closing.

The restaurant’s final day of service will be Sept. 29, said owner Terri LoRusso. Terri and her late husband, Rich, opened LoRusso’s in 1986.

The closure comes as LoRusso said the restaurant has faced several challenges in recent years, ranging from the COVID-19 pandemic to her husband’s death in 2022. LoRusso said she “just couldn’t give up the restaurant,” but increased supply chain costs have eaten into the restaurant’s margins. LoRusso said she didn’t want to keep operating the business if it would have required taking on debt.

LoRusso said she considered selling the restaurant but opted against it.

“It didn’t take me long to realize I didn’t really want to sell. I just didn’t want to take the chance of somebody taking over and not doing justice to the food, to the service and all that,” she said.
