O'FALLON, Ill. — A bakery and restaurant in Metro East plans to close near the end of the year, and the building and fixtures are up for sale.
The Happy Bakery’s last day of operation is currently scheduled for Dec. 23, owner and chef Charlie Cook posted Wednesday on Facebook. The vegan bakery in O’Fallon, Illinois, began as an online Etsy operation in 2014 and adapted into a custom-order cakery, then a bakery with a brick-and-mortar storefront at 102 W. Sixth St. in downtown O’Fallon. In 2020, the bakery added a restaurant.
Cook posted she'll be retiring from the restaurant and bakery business, prompted by health issues from the long hours and physical labor required, along with a desire to spend more time with her children, who grew up in the bakery.
