ST. LOUIS — Missouri in 2023 ranked 28th among U.S. states for growth, according to moving giant U-Haul, off from its 13th-place ranking in 2022.
U-Haul said that one-way customers arriving in Missouri fell more than 1% from 2022, while departures remained level year over year.
The growth index is compiled according to the net gain of one-way U-Haul trucks, trailers and moving containers arriving in a city or state.
The Phoenix firm said that do-it-yourself movers arriving in Missouri accounted for just over 49.9% of all one-way U-Haul traffic in and out of Missouri. Departures accounted for 50.1%.
St. Louis "was essentially a break-even market" in 2023, a U-Haul spokesman said, with just a few more one-way, do-it-yourself movers leaving than arriving. Missouri's top growth cities were Lee's Summit, Columbia and Independence, while other net-gain markets included Blue Springs, St. Peters, Overland, Ballwin, Ozark, Troy, University City, Rolla and Grandview. Branson was also a break-even market.
