ST. LOUIS — Damn Fine Hand Pies, which has sold hand pies and sourdough baked goods at Tower Grove Farmers Market, is opening its own restaurant.

On Saturday, it will hold its grand opening for its location at 4000 Shaw Ave., in the city’s Shaw neighborhood. The brick-and-mortar location will allow for an expanded menu, while also providing an opportunity to branch into wholesale orders and catering, said owner Madeline Hissong.

Hissong in 2021 started Damn Fine Hand Pies, making its products out of a kitchen at her home and selling them at the Tower Grove Farmers Market. Hissong later began using a commercial kitchen located at Christ Church Maplewood, and added Gene Bailey as a business partner. She said she knew Bailey from her former role at chicken restaurant Juniper, where Hissong was sous chef and Bailey was a consultant. Gene Bailey is the brother of St. Louis restaurateur Dave Bailey.
