ST. LOUIS — Opening a restaurant downtown is a good business move, according to Mike Johnson and Dave Molina, co-owners of Hot Pizza Cold Beer, a new restaurant slated to open Feb. 2 at 610 Washington Ave.

The pair expects the restaurant to post about $3.5 million in gross sales during its first year, a figure that will put it right in between their other downtown restaurants — Sugarfire Smokehouse, located across the street, and Hi-Pointe Drive-In, located next door — which post annual revenues of “a little more” and “a little less,” respectively.

The ownership group, which also includes Charlie Downs, does “some big sales in some places,” Johnson previously told the Business Journal, adding that the downtown Sugarfire restaurant is the group’s second-highest grossing location. Johnson on Wednesday said the downtown Sugarfire posted between $5 million and $6 million in annual revenue pre-Covid.
