ST. LOUIS — A new poll shows Wesley Bell leading Cori Bush and another challenger in the upcoming Democratic primary for Bush's St. Louis-area congressional seat.
The poll, conducted Feb. 7 to 9 with 401 likely primary voters, said that St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Bell has 50% support, followed by Bush (28%) and Maria Chappelle-Nadal (4%). The primary is Aug. 6.
The survey, done by Remington Research Group on behalf of private news service Missouri Scout, has attracted national attention, due to Bush's high profile as a member of a progressive group of U.S. House members called "The Squad."
Bush's comments critical of Israel's war with Hamas have also proved controversial, fueling Jewish support for Bell.
The poll said the respondents were more sympathetic to Israel (35%) versus the Palestinians (21%).
They also said they want a representative whose priority is helping Missouri (61%) versus fighting the agenda of Republicans (28%).
