Popsicle truck hits St. Louis streets

Kaylen Wissinger launched her new popsicle truck.

ST. LOUIS — The long-awaited ice pop truck from Kaylen Wissinger, owner of Whisk, is hitting St. Louis streets. Poptimism features popsicles made using seasonal, hyper-local ingredients, Wissinger said in a statement.

"We've been dreaming about this since 2012, when that first strawberry lemon ice pop was made in our home freezer in Tower Grove South," Wissinger said.

Chloe Yates and Ben McArthur have purchased Frankly Sausages, the popular sausage and fries food truck that closed earlier this year. Previous owners Bill and Jamie Cawthon closed the restaurant space and the food truck in May and decided to sell the truck, the Frankly Sausages brand and all future bookings.

Since that time, Wissinger opened her bakeshop storefront, called Whisk, on Cherokee Street, and she has been selling ice pops at the Tower Grove Farmers' Market every Saturday.

After several years of selling out of the popsicles every week, she decided it was time to upgrade production, she said.

"We wish we had the truck ready to go earlier this year, but honestly, the timing is great right now," Wissinger said. "Some of the best summer flavors are on deck — peach basil, watermelon, sweet corn, concord grape, blackberry goat cheese, blueberries and cream — there's just so many."

Nerves were high for Loryn and Edo Nalic in the days leading up to the opening of their first restaurant, Balkan Treat Box. Three years after launching their acclaimed food truck that serves classic Balkan food, some with American twists, the husband-and-wife duo decided to leverage the success of their concept and open a brick-and-mortar restaurant.

Wissinger purchased a 1984 AM General postal truck last summer and has been repairing it for the past year.
