DES PERES, Mo. — Shake Shack last month opened its fifth location in the St. Louis region in Des Peres, as the fast-casual restaurant says it has evolved its stores to better fit changing consumer habits.

Consumers want ease, functionality and convenience, Regional Director of Operations Laramie Aronson said.

That’s why drive-thrus are something Shake Shack has been looking at “for a number of years now,” as the company wants to reach guests it “might not have been able to reach with (its) traditional Shack format,” she said.

The company’s Des Peres location is its second in the St. Louis region to feature a drive-thru, following its Chesterfield location.

The Central West End location was Shake Shack’s first in the region. The store — which along with the company’s Ladue location — was built in Shake Shack’s traditional format. Both restaurants have since been retrofitted with self-ordering kiosks and walk-up windows to meet changed consumer habits.
