ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis area added more than 27,000 jobs over a year, but had fewer jobs in July than June, according to a new report.

The metro counted 1,457,700 non-farm jobs as of July, up from 1,430,100 in July last year, or an increase of 1.9%, according to a report from the state of Missouri.

At the same time, statewide unemployment rose 26.2% from a year ago, to 3.8%. Local unemployment figures weren't provided, but data covering June showed that the number of St. Louis-area unemployed has increased.

The new jobs report shows which local industries are adding positions.

Non-seasonally adjusted numbers show an increase of 32,900 jobs, or a 2.3% increase.

The increase was primarily in private industry jobs — 30,300 jobs were added in private industry, an increase of 2.4% over 2023, and 2,600 jobs were added in local, state and federal government, an increase of 1.9%.
