ST. LOUIS — St. Louis’ bid to bring a major international hockey tournament to St. Louis has fallen short.

USA Hockey said Friday it has named the Twin Cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota, as host of the 2026 International Hockey Federation World Junior Championship. The championship, known as World Juniors, is an annual event that includes 10 teams competing with players under 20 years old.

The St. Louis Sports Commission and St. Louis Blues put together a coalition to bid on hosting the 2026 World Juniors, saying the event provided an opportunity to show off the region to an international audience while also generating an economic return. It said past World Juniors have included 6,000 hotel nights booked in the host cities, with more than 400 participants and attendance topping 250,000.
