ST. LOUIS — St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones on Monday signed two bills regulating short-term rentals such as those found on Airbnb.

Board Bill 33 requires a permit to operate a short-term rental in the city and sets up a permit system, and Board Bill 34 revises city code to establish short-term rental as a permitted use in all zones of the city. BB 33 also requires that a so-called "short-term rental agent" be designated to respond to concerns, establishes an application process and an appeals process when permits are denied, as well as a process for revoking a permit.

The city's short-term rental applications and permit system will launch by the end of 2024, according to a release from Jones' office.

The new short-term rental regulations prohibit parties and single-night stays; require that permitted operators' designated agent be available 24/7 to address issues for renters and neighbors; limit the total number of rentals in multifamily structures; and cap the total number of short-term rentals an individual can operate.
