St. Louis chocolate maker to shutter storefront while shifting operations

Loyet co-founded the company with his wife, Haley Loyet, in 2016 while they were undergrads at Illinois Wesleyan University.

CLAYTON, Mo. — Honeymoon Chocolates is closing its storefront due to slow sales there and switching focus to its wholesale business.

“We needed twice as many customers than we were able to drive,” owner Cam Loyet said of the decision to shutter. “We held on as long as we could waiting to see if we could keep trying a couple of different strategies and nothing really worked.”

The Clayton-based maker of healthier chocolate will have its last day of operations at 16 N. Central Ave. on Oct. 29, Loyet said. The company is looking to then move its manufacturing operations, which were also housed in the Clayton location, to a new space in Chesterfield, where it will aim to boost inventory ahead of the upcoming holiday season, he added.
