CAMDEN, Maine — A municipal board in a coastal town in Maine is calling for criminal charges against a St. Louis couple because a herbicide they applied to trees on a neighbor's property there several years ago now has been found at a public beach.

The couple – Amelia Bond, former president and CEO of the St. Louis Community Foundation, and her husband, Arthur Bond III, nephew of former U.S. Sen. Kit Bond – have a vacation home in Camden, Maine.

Last fall, under a consent agreement with the town, the couple agreed to pay $215,200 in fines for applying herbicide to trees on the beachside property of neighbor Lisa Gorman, and also were to be liable for the costs of any possible contamination on town property in Camden, according to the Bangor Daily News. The Bonds also entered a consent agreement with the Maine Board of Pesticides Control requiring them to pay $4,500 for unlawful application of the herbicide tebuthiuron, according to the report.
