ST. LOUIS — Schnuck Markets Inc. will discontinue its Eatwell Market by Schnucks concept, which will result in one store's name changing and another's closure, officials announced Friday.
The concept, focused heavily on organic, local and specialty items, was carried by two stores, in Chesterfield and in Columbia, Missouri.
The 30,200-square-foot Eatwell Market store in Chesterfield, which opened in March 2023 at 222 THF Blvd., will permanently close June 2, the company said. The location employed 40 workers, all of whom will be transferred to nearby St. Louis-area Schnucks stores, according to the release.
The store is in Chesterfield Commons, a shopping center owned by an entity tied to developer Michael Staenberg of The Staenberg Group. The site once housed a Babies R Us location.
The 41,700-square-foot Eatwell Market in Columbia, Missouri, which opened in 2020, will be converted to a traditional Schnucks store this summer. All the store’s employees will remain employed at the location during and after the conversion, officials said.
