ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s Downtown Bike Unit will relocate its operations to the Globe Building, opening a new location officials say will improve the unit’s visibility in efforts to curb downtown St. Louis crime.

A new substation for the bike unit is expected to open in late September inside the Globe Building, located at 710 N. Tucker Blvd. The Bike Unit will relocate from its current location inside the Fashion Square building at 1307 Washington Ave.

The Globe Building said it has signed a 10-year lease with the Downtown St. Louis Community Improvement District for a 4,000-square-foot space that will be used by the Downtown Bike Unit. The new location will be located on the Globe Building’s first floor at the corner of Tucker Boulevard and Convention Center Drive.

That location will “generate significant police visibility and deterrence value on a high traffic street,” a news release said.
