ST. LOUIS — Downtown arcade bar Start Bar is closing its doors.
Start Bar, 1000 Spruce St., will close Oct. 14, per a social media post from the venue. Start Bar shares ownership with two nearby restaurants, Wheelhouse, which is in a separate space at 1000 Spruce, and the Midwestern at 900 Spruce. Wheelhouse and Midwestern will remain open, the social media post said.
“With multiple venues operating in such close proximity, the costs have become increasingly difficult to manage, especially as foot traffic downtown has shifted over the past few years. By focusing on our two venues, we can now invest in both Wheelhouse and Midwestern, and making significant improvements — both large and small — that will ensure these businesses thrive for years,” the post said.
In its note about Start Bar’s closure, the venue said “many” of its staff members will work at Wheelhouse and Midwestern after the bar shuts down.
