ST. LOUIS — The Taco & Ice Cream Joint in south St. Louis will offer some of its specialty items through Sunday before closing for good.

The restaurant has served up savory Mexican fare as well as frozen treats since its April 2017 opening at 2738 Cherokee St. in the Gravois Park neighborhood. The building and restaurant are owned by Salvador Rico and his family, who also own El Morelia Super Mercado, the Mexican-South American grocery store in Bridgeton.

"It is with a very sad and heavy heart that we announce the closure of this journey," the restaurant said Friday in a social media post. "Thanks to all who supported us throughout the years. Cheers to new beginnings."

The post was edited to add "Keep supporting local businesses!!!! We need yall more than ever."
