The U.S. Coast Guard plans to open a recruiting office in Laclede's Landing.

ST. LOUIS — The U.S. Coast Guard plans to relocate its local recruiting office from north St. Louis County to a shuttered restaurant building on Laclede’s Landing.

The St. Louis Port Authority Thursday is slated to vote on a resolution to lease the former Sundecker’s Bar and Grill, at 900 N. First St., and rehab the 3,940-square-foot facility for the Coast Guard. That would provide a new local recruiting center for the Coast Guard, which currently has its recruiting office in the North County Square shopping center at 10712 W. Florissant Ave.

Sundecker’s, a long-time restaurant and bar on the Landing, closed about a decade ago. The property is owned by GLP Capital LP, affiliated with Gaming and Leisure Properties Inc. (Nasdaq: GLPI), which owns the Horseshoe St. Louis casino’s property. The former Sundecker’s building is vacant and “in disrepair,” according to the Port Authority. The Port Authority plans to enter into a short-term lease for the property and issue a request for design services to renovate the facility.
