Webster Groves restaurant faces suit over unpaid rent

WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. — Layla — located at 20 Allen Ave. in Webster Groves — has been sued for failing to pay rent.

The restaurant’s landlord, Novus Companies, in a lawsuit filed last month in St. Louis County Circuit Court said the restaurant owes $37,376.64 in base annual and additional rent. Records state owners Jason and Maria Sparks entered a five-year lease with Novus for $6,587.33 per month, beginning in February 2019.

It’s not the first lawsuit Layla in Webster has faced. Novus in June 2022 sued Layla Webster Groves for delinquent rent and other fees in the amount of $63,436, according to St. Louis County court records. The case was dismissed by parties without prejudice in September 2022.
