Camp Jackson fire station struck by New Year's Eve gunfire

Firefighters believe the bullet may have been a celebratory gunshot.

CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill — The Camp Jackson Fire Protection District's firehouse garage door was struck by gunfire just before midnight on New Year's Eve.

Firefighters told a 5 On Your Side photographer that a firefighter had moved away from the garage door just moments before a bullet shot out one of the door's bay windows.

No firefighters were injured by the gunfire, and the bullet caused no other damage to the building. The fire department taped over the hole with tape.

Because of the bullet's timing, firefighters said they believed the bullet was a celebratory New Year's Eve gunshot.
