Car fatally hits man in wheelchair, drags him for blocks

The 63-year-old victim was crossing Goodfellow Boulevard at St. Louis Avenue. The car dragged him for hundreds of yards before leaving the scene.

ST. LOUIS — A 63-year-old man in a wheelchair was fatally struck by a vehicle while crossing a roadway in north St. Louis Saturday evening, a brief report from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said Sunday.

Using the crosswalk, the victim was crossing Goodfellow Boulevard near St. Louis Avenue, according to police. That's when an unknown vehicle traveling north on Goodfellow hit him.

"The 63-year-old man was dragged to Goodfellow [Boulevard] and Goodfellow Place," police said. "The unknown vehicle left the scene."

The distance from St. Louis Avenue to Goodfellow Place is nearly 300 yards.

Emergency Medical Services and Officers with SLMPD's Fifth District were sent to the scene around 8 p.m.

EMS rushed the victim away from the scene for emergency medical treatment, but he died at the hospital.

SLMPD's accident reconstruction investigators are looking into the fatal hit-and-run.
