ST. LOUIS — A change is coming to the downtown St. Louis skyline. Ground was broken Tuesday on a new hotel at Ballpark Village.

Live by Loews will be built right at the corner of 8th and Spruce. The eight-story hotel will have about 220 rooms and represents a $65-million investment into downtown.

It's a big project, and planners are promising minority workers will play a big part. Something that's not always the case here in St. Louis.

"We're gonna beat our numbers put out there by the mayor in terms of minority participation, both in construction and the workforce side," said St. Louis Cardinals President Bill DeWitt III. "Today was a real easy process to get good minority representation because we're working with them every day to make this a very inclusive project."

The facility will also feature wine and bourbon bars, a sophisticated lounge, outdoor terrace and a grand ballroom for special events.

The project is expected to open in the first quarter of 2020.
