ST. LOUIS — The CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities of St. Louis has died at the age of 64.

The nonprofit announced on Monday that Dan Harbaugh died after a three-time battle with cancer.

In its statement, it said, "Dan served as a guiding light for Ronald McDonald House Charities of St. Louis for over 30 years, leaving an incredible mark on our mission and community."

"Under Dan’s leadership, Ronald McDonald House Charities of St. Louis has grown from one location to opening three additional Ronald McDonald Houses," the statement said. "Today, the charity provides its impactful mission through two locations that support 92 families each night. Further, the Ronald McDonald Family Room program has continued to thrive with four locations across three major hospital partners. These rooms support over 49,000 families annually."

Most recently, Harbaugh led the nonprofit through the development of its third location on 4321 Chouteau Avenue. Families stay at Ronald McDonald House for free while their children receive treatment at the three major St. Louis area pediatric hospitals — St. Louis Children’s Hospital, SSM Health Cardinal Glenn Children’s Hospital and Shriners Hospital for Children-St. Louis — all in the Midtown area near the new house.

A funeral service is scheduled for Aug. 16, 10 a.m. at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church.
