2 teens charged in connection with fatal south St. Louis shooting

The two suspects were charged with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and two counts of armed criminal action.

ST. LOUIS — Two suspects have been arrested and charged after a shooting left a victim dead and another victim wounded in early October.

The Circuit Attorney's Office issued charges Wednesday for Toron Mitchell, 19, and Azavian Royal, 18. The two suspects were charged with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and two counts of armed criminal action.

Royal was also charged with third-degree assault. 

The St. Louis City Police Department responded to a call about a shooting on October 8 at the 3500 block of South Compton Avenue around 3:24 a.m.

Police arrived to find Iarvera Hale, 17, unconscious, not breathing, and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  Police found another unidentified 16-year-old victim who suffered from a gunshot wound to the leg. 

Hale was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS, according to the police report. 

The unidentified victim was taken to an area hospital. According to police, he was in stable condition following the shooting. 

The Homicide Division was requested and is leading the investigation.

Both Mitchell and Royal are being held without bond.
