ST. LOUIS – A spokesperson for Charter Communications says service has been restored after an internet outage left thousands of customers across the country without access to cat videos and ice bucket challenges.
Saturday evening a spokesperson told the Associated Press the cause of the outage was unknown and issues were "intermittent across parts of our footprint."
Complaints on Twitter were plentiful Saturday, presumably from people accessing the social network through phones. A search of the word "Charter" on the site brings up complaints nationwide.
Service was restored by Sunday, but a cause for the outage has not been released. Here is Charter's complete statement:
"Charter Communications reports services have been restored following an Internet outage that affected multiple markets across its operating area including Missouri and Illinois on August 23. Technical teams are monitoring the network closely and continue to investigate the cause of the issue."
