ST. LOUIS — A group of people carried large crosses across downtown St. Louis on Good Friday.
A few pastors and their members spent the Christian holiday remembering those who have tragically died in downtown St. Louis.
"We're praying over the city and we want to see a revival take place in the city. To combat all of the violence and the hatred and the fear that's taking place in our society," said Chris Aaron Rice, a pastor at New Life Evangelistic Center.
Rice alluded to the behavior in the area that has led people losing their lives: "There's a lot of wild driving. There's a lot of partying that takes place here."
One stop was at North 18th and Olive streets, where a mother and daughter from Chicago were killed in a crash.
Another was in the 1300 Block of Washington where a woman was shot and injured while leaving a restaurant.
"We do this ever year as the atonement of sin on the cross and we do this as remembrance of the shame and necessity for Christ to die in our place," Rice expressed.
The group passed by 1409 Washington, where last year a teenage boy was killed and 11 others were hurt when a party turned violence in an office space upstairs.
"I've lost family members. I've had some situations with my family from violence and things like that, yep," said Chandra Williams, who walked with the group for the first time.
"Its to demonstrate just a portion of my expression of love for Christ."
The group passed out The Last Sayings of Christ on the Cross and crosses to people as they walked through the neighborhood.
"We're bringing the message of the gospel to the pain, the hurting, the brokenness here in St. Louis. Because that's where it's needed most," Rice said.
This was New Life Evangelistic Center's 52nd year leading the walk.
The church is an interdenominational church and non-profit that serves the homeless.
