CLAYTON, Mo. (KSDK) - A group of about 100 protesters took to the streets of downtown Clayton Wednesday night.
"Hands up, don't shoot," they chanted.
The group marched for several blocks, stopping at the Buzz Westfall Justice Center to pray and chant.
Then back to marching.
"I was thinking about Eric Garner, I cried," says Rosemary Haynes from North Carolina.
The marchers only shutting down one intersection along the way, near Carondelet and Bemiston in downtown Clayton.
One of the organizers asking for the group to think of Eric Garner, the man killed by a New York police officer whose final words were "I can't breathe."
Then about half the group participated in a die in, falling to the street, staying still for 4 and half minutes.
The group that organized this march, the Metropolitan Congregations United and the Gamaliel Network.
They are hoping to meet with St. Louis County Executive-Elect Steve Stenger to talk about changes in the county.
Like diversifying the police departments and overhauling the court system and costs.
"To remove the burden of the debtors prison system here in St. Louis County, it's affecting too many poor people," said Reverend John Welch, with the Gamaliel Network.
Haynes from North Carolina says day in and day out their voices are being heard.
"It's a marathon but I think eventually we are making a point, we have to start somewhere," she said.
The group was very peaceful in Clayton and there were no arrests.
